Work in Progress Wednesday: A snippet from By Any Other Name.

Half an hour later the same faintly bitter silence still filled the car. Michael was fairly certain there must be an elephant sitting on his chest. He couldn’t get a full breath, and every time he thought about the stupid thing he’d said, he wanted to kick his own ass.  If he’d been this stupid in the desert none of them would have come back, not even with the amazing shit Sergeant Soto had pulled out of nowhere more than once to save them all. Michael would swear more that more than once there’d been no warning, no way of knowing that shit was about to go sideways and still the Sergeant had kept everyone in the squad alive long enough to make it back. Well, at least to make it back in body. Michael wasn’t sure that Dieterman had actually made it all the way back from the sands. They’d kept him from being blown to hell and gone the day he probably was supposed to die, but something had broken in Raymond Dieterman that day. Michael was glad that he was going to be getting some help. He seriously wasn’t sure how the guy had hung on as long as he had.
Andy turned the Nova into his driveway, and started to reach for the ignition to shut the car off. Michael caught his writs in a loose grip. Crap, he’d forgotten to tell Andy about the garage door opener.
“I put an automatic opener in for you. So you wouldn’t have to leave your car out in the snow all the time.”
Andy’s mouth pinched into an even thinner line, but then he just shook his head, a reluctant seeming smile finally curving the sulky corners of his mouth upward. He turned and leaned back against the driver’s side door.
“And just when did you break and enter my home to put this automatic garage door opener in?”
Michael just laughed.
“Are you gonna press charges, babe?”
Andy snorted.
“What the hell would I say, Michael? Help, my stalker is fixing up my house and rebuilding my car from the ground up?”
Michael took his turn to blush.
“Ah, yeah. Something like that, I guess.”
Andy quirked a sleek blond brow at him.
“Right. And that would fly so well in the ever progressive courts of greater Syracuse… I’d be lucky if they didn’t arrest me for wasting their time.

Thursday... and Another Big Thing

Okay, you're probably wondering how many Next Big Things one author can possibly participate in by this point, right?

Heh. Well, the truth is this one is my fourth, and I'm planning to do at least one a month for until the end of this year, and more often if I have more coming out in the meantime. Okay... um.... so my next big thing is actually my final for Italian Cinema class... but I'm trying to keep this all about the writing.

*snerk*

So, in true Writing Cave fashion, here's the NEXT BIG THING... and it's coming in February... well, at least it's getting subbed in February... and then I'll keep you posted about when it'll actually be available.

1: What is the working title of your book?

Changeless

2: Where did the idea come from for the book?

Hmmm... Tracy Tucker Faul. She played a song for me, and told me she wanted a story to go with it... this is her story.

3: What genre does your book fall under?

Contemporary Romance

4: Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

Two scrumptious unknowns!

5: What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

A man falls in love with his best friend, but takes eight years and travelling to the other side of the country to figure it out.

*I did say I suck at one sentence synopses*

6: Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

An Agency... MLR is where I plan to sub this puppy.

7: How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

 Heh. Still writing it.

8: What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

?What were we talking about?

9: Who or What inspired you to write this book?

The song Changeless by Carbon Leaf... and the song Time after Time by Cindy Lauper.

10: What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

It features some of the funniest moments in texting, ever. No, really.

I found a sucker... er, I mean another talented author to dive into the Next Big Thing pool after me! Jade Crystal is up to bat next week and you can find more of Jade's awesome by following the links on this page *Jade's Facebook stuff*

Thursday Think Tank: The First Next Big Thing (of 2013)

1: What is the working title of your book?

By Any Other Name

2: Where did the idea come from for the book?

Well, once I had the Rescue Twinks in my head, they started forming relationships... Michael and his twink, Andy, are important supporting characters in the first two books of the series, and they just demanded their own story. Heh. You can get the full story on exactly what a "Rescue Twink" is here.

3: What genre does your book fall under?

Romantic Comedy

4: Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Eh, if i could get Adrej Pejic to play Andy, and Channing Tatum to play Michael... well. That would just be pretty to look at, wouldn't it?

5: What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

You guys seriously need to stop asking me this question. I suck at one sentence anything.

6: Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

I'm self-pubbing this whole series. :)

7: How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

*cough-stillworkingonit-cough*

8: What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Um... the first two in the series?

9: Who or What inspired you to write this book?

Michael and Andy of course. They are very real to me.

10: What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

Say it with me. Rescue... Twinks... yeah. It sounds good, huh?

I was precede in this hop by the amazing Denise Verrico and will be followed by... oh shite, I forgot to get people. Hello... hello... hello... anyone want to follow me? Please?

More Monday Madess with some Seven and Seven

Oi! Someone tagged me yesterday... can't recall who... Lex Valentine? Jackie Nacht? I dunno... so, 7th or 77th page, 7th line down, 7 lines... is that how it goes?

From Worth A Thousand Words.

Adrien crumpled down to the floor in stages,
shaking all over. He sat on the cold floor tiles between the
little bunched up mess he’d made of his favorite throw rug
when he slipped earlier and the vanity. He didn’t do
anything else, just sat rocking back and forth, back and
forth until the shower ran cold, and the pounding in his ears
stopped. Then he wobbled to his feet, stumbled into his
bedroom and crawled into bed. Pulling the duvet over his
head, he decided the whole damned day needed a do-over.
He tossed and turned, and then pulled the pillow Devon had
slept on over to bury his face in.

Monday~Mayhem, Foolishness, and Prizes!!

Congrats, Lisabet Sarai!! You win the free ecopy of Worth A Thousand Words book two in my Rescue Twinks series.

~~winner picked via a random draw enacted by the kidlet. I wrote names down on a sheet, counted how many and asked her to pick a number between 1 and 100... and then counted around the names of those entered until I came to the # she picked. :)

Okay, you lucky peeps. Lisabet want's the prize to go to a lucky reader, so the New Winner is... MER!! Will be sending you an email tomorrow!

A Hot Off The Presses Snippet of my current wonderful WIP:
By Any Other Name ~ A Rescue Twinks novel

********************

"Andy. Babe, I told you what happens when you misbehave. Do you remember?"

Andy's voice shook as he replied, and his heart raced. "You kiss me?"

Michael bent his head, his deep blue eyes twinkling. A rakish little smile tipped on corner of his mouth up. “You know it babe.”

Andy let his inclinations overcome his good sense, just this once. He let his head fall back, expecting to feel the cold roof of his old car against his hair. Instead a big, warm hand cradled the back of his skull. A pleased smirk flickered across his cupid bow mouth right before Michael's firm lips pressed against his. Andy closed his eyes. If he couldn't see the look on Michael's face, he could pretend that a man like Michael would want to kiss him for something besides a behavior modification method.

Michael reached up with his other hand, cupping Andy's jaw and applying a slight pressure against the side. Andy obligingly opened his mouth. Even if it didn't mean anything, he'd learned over the past couple of weeks that Michael kissed exactly the way Andy liked best, wet and deep with a hint that he wouldn't take no for an answer.

Andy moaned when Michael tightened his grip on both the back of his head and jaw simultaneously. Micheal slid his fingers deeper into Andy's hair, pulling enough to make his scalp sting a tiny bit. Andy melted, going utterly boneless with one exception. His cock hardened in a rush, pushing and pulsing against the front of his black dress pants.

Michael leaned into him hard, chest pressing him hard against the top of the car. He released Andy's jaw, sliding that hand down along Andy's neck to his shoulder. Michael kept the hand moving, running it down Andy's side to his hip. When he reached the hip, he squeezed hard, pulling his head back at the same time.

Andy opened his eyes, a whimper slipping from his lips at the same time. “No, don't stop.”

Michael grinned. “Well, I'm not sure that's much of a punishment. Maybe next time you're naughty I ought to not kiss you. And, seriously, Andy... we better stop, or you won't have a job either.”

Andy hung his head. Darn it. Michael was here about Adrien's job. Of course he was here about Adrien's job--there was no reason for him to be harassing Andy otherwise.

What the Heck are Rescue Twinks, Anyway?

Despite the fact that these sexy, glittery boys have been dancing around in my head for quite a while, not everyone has the same luxury... this little factlet was brought to my attention by the very helpful comment by CatherineLee (and isn't that a cute name? I may have to name a character in my Matefinder's INC series after her!)

Here's what  Catherine said...okay, maybe I shoulda been hip to this before someone had to beat me over the head and shoulders with it, but hey, even I can catch a clue-by-four if you yell "look" when you throw it...

Catherine LeeJanuary 10, 2013 9:50 PM
"Rescue Twinks" series? What does that mean? I must not be hip to the lingo."

Er, no, Catherine. I'm just sailing through the world most of the time in a haze of smexy character confusion, wondering why everyone else can't see all the very hot and cute things that I do... until some sane and kindly person reminds me that not everyone lives at 69 Freakodilia Street with me. LOL.

Well, let's start at the beginning, shall we?

The Rescue Twink Novels all started with an over enthusiastic glitter application gone bad... my daughter, aka the kidlet, had decided to sprinkle blue and gold glitter in her hair.

*mind you, this was over a year ago and I am still finding bits of glitter everywhere*

When I chastised her about the two full bottles of glitter she'd glued into her hair with an almost equally copious amount of hair gel (using up the entire amount her mum--that's me, guys) had allotted for the next two and a half weeks.

*insert long-suffering sigh here... or, you know, a giggle*

Then, a few weeks later, at a bus stop on a very cold day, the two of us decided that jabbering about glitter and it's many uses would keep our minds off being cold... and voila, the Rescue Twinks were born...

What?
It still makes no sense?
Hmm.
Okay, I'll let the boys explain it themselves... this is a snip from Worth A Thousand Words, where Michael explains Glitter Alerts and the Twinks...

Rose paused as he came to the mouth of the driveway. Paying close attention to the cars zipping up and down Genesee Street, he whipped the Jeep out into the first available opening. Once they were in the flow of traffic and headed back towards Rose’s place, he continued. “So there were… let me see… eight of the guys who were always getting picked on, as far back as middle school. They were really why Mama Jimenez and I started the school’s chapter of the Gay-Straight Alliance. But what we didn’t know was that even before we started that, they were kinda watching out for each other.”
Devon turned to rest one shoulder against the passenger side door. “Go on. What did they do?”
Rose chuckled, lifting one hand from the steering wheel to push his bangs back from his forehead. Devon bit his tongue to keep from suggesting Rose get a real haircut and stop sporting the Justin Bieber hair-do he presently wore. Rose’s voice broke into his musings. Laughter threaded through his words.
“They had this whole code worked out for what they called Glitter Alerts.”
A bright yellow sports car cut them off, and Rose broke off for a moment to curse them out in two different languages. Huh. Devon hadn’t realized Rose swore so fluently in Arabic. Rose maneuvered the Jeep quickly around the offending vehicle before continuing his story about Adrien and his friends.
“Yeah, so anyway, they had a code for freaking damn near every single thing you could think of, all broken down in to colors and levels of glitter. Most of the average idiots at our school never figured out what the Twinks were up to. They just went on thinking they were all especially gay little gay-boys, and writing them off. But Adrien and his Twinks protected more marginalized high school kids than ever knew about it, and all without ever breaking one of their pretty little nails. Well, except for Adrien, of course. He was always klutzy.”
Devon settled properly back into his seat, adjusting the safety belt over his chest. He watched the scenery go by for a moment, half his brain busy being fascinated by the old headstones of the cemetery they were passing. “Glitter Alerts?”
Rose snorted. “Yeah, Sarge. Color, level—I guess they’re kind of like Threat-Con levels for the military, but way more complex. They worked out a way to get appropriate help for every bullying situation they’d ever faced or heard about someone else getting caught up in. Adrien and Sam would have these marathon planning sessions where they strategized about how to help the kids who didn’t know how to ask for help.”

Hot Off the Presses... No, Really. I just wrote this. In fact, I'm writing it right now, okay. Geez, no pressure or anything, is there?

*giggle*

By Any Other Name

"You can't keep doing this Michael."
Andy stomped his small foot  and threw both hands in the air. Gah, this was just too much. After he'd forbidden Michael's showing up at his house unannounced any more, the big idiot had taken to showing up at Andy's job--eh, to be fair, it was really where they both worked. Andy was even Michael's boss. For crying out loud, they guys down in the security office were having a field day with the fact that one of Andy's faux-Santas from the Christmas Village kept showing up when he was off shift to work on Andy's car. Andy stomped his foot again, completely exasperated.

Michael grinned. "If you'd just let me buy you a decent car, I wouldn't have to spend so much time fixing this old clunker up, babe."

Andy ground his teeth together, and then marched forward. Grabbing hold of Michael, he pulled at the larger man's arm, attempting to pull him around. Michael just grunted, not moved a single inch despite Andy giving the effort his all. Andy lifted a booted foot to kick Michael's--well, he couldn't reach the damn giant's ass. He could kick him in the shin though.

Michael set his wrench down with a clang, spinning around to catch Andy around the waist and lift him right off his feet. He took two steps down the side of the car, and then pressed Andy up against the side of the vehicle.

"Andy. Babe, I told you what happens when you misbehave. Do you remember?"

Andy's voice shook as he replied, and his heart raced. "You kiss me?"

Interviewing Janiera Eldridge...

Hiya, babies! Hope you're ready to have a sexy, sassy time with Janiera Eldridge and her rocking Dark Expectations Tour!

Thanks so much for having me on your blog today Cherie!

I'm delighted to have you here, Janiera! Let's get right to the cool interview stuff, okay? And at the end we'll put up the rafflecopter and all the groovy promo stuff. Ready Steady, Go, go, go!

1. Looking back was there something in particular that helped you to decide to become a writer?

When I was in high-school I studied and prepared to go to college to get a business degree. However, during my first semester of college I got a terrible bout of mononucleosis that developed into Fibromyalgia. In-between doctor visits, terrible pain and fatigue I started writing out of therapy and before I knew it, my first book was written. I never went back to school and decided I wanted to writ full time. I hate my illness but it did bring to light what I really wanted to do with my life.

2. Do you write right through or do you revise as you go along?

I have to write all the way through the first round of the manuscript. I’ve heard of writers revising throughout (and their books are usually released faster). However, I have to pour all of my thoughts onto the page without questioning myself. I’m not exactly best friends with edits but, the first edit, is a chance for me to pick things apart and make them better.

3. When it comes to plotting, do you write freely or plan everything in advance?

My stories always write themselves! I never outline or anything like that because I really do enjoy letting the creative juices flow and seeing what comes out next.

4. Does the title of a book you’re writing come to you as you’re writing it, or does it come before you even begin the first sentence?

It’s funny because in the first book of the Soul Sisters Trilogy the title Soul Sisters came to mind before I even started the story. However, in book 2 the title Dark Expectations didn’t come to me until the edits and I was revising everything. It’s like it just hit me in the head one day.

5. Writing is obviously not just how you make your living, but your life-style as well. What do you do to keep the creative "spark" alive - both in your work and out of it?

Writing is totally a way of life. A very, starving artist way of life I might add. To get new ideas I constantly read to get some jolting inspiration. If I hit a mean writing block, I’ll take a day or two off to listen to some music, see a movie or read good book and the creativity will soon come back to me. I don’t believe in writing to fill up pages; I believe in writing when you’re at your creative best.

6. What are you working on now?

I’m working on getting my novella Good Ghost Gone Bad ready for release in February. It’s my first ghost story so I’m really excited about sharing it soon. I’ll also be writing a “fiction” story about a girl with Fibromyalgia. I love experimenting with different genres!

Great Expectations~Something Naughty

Today marks the beginning of the Something Naughty, Something New Blog Hop that Lisabet Sarai and Jennifer Wright were kind enough to invite me along for. I'm absolutely thrilled to be taking part in this fun romp, and wanted to make sure I said so right at the beginning. So, just in case you were wondering, this is how I feel about the hop: Let the Snoopy Dancing Begin!!

GREAT EXPECTATIONS

What, you say, has Cherie finally flipped her lid? Nah. Not at all. I've simply decided that this year is going to be absolutely stellar. I've got big, big plans for my characters, and that means loads more things for you all to read. :)

I'll be updating the blog throughout the hop, with snippets from some of the things that will be coming down the pipeline, as well as a couple of "behind the scenes" introspective looks on where these crazy characters come from, how they develop, who is really telling the stories (cause babies, it sure ain't me) and a load of other info.

Get ready, cause Great things are heading your way. As the day winds on, I'll be posting my first behind the scenes look at the making of Worth A Thousand Words, book two in my Rescue Twinks series... and the first prize I'm offering up in the hop. Be sure to check back regularly, and comment, cause each new post  you comment on is another entry in the contest. :)  So, without Further Ado, I give you a naughty little taste of the boys from WATW...

Worth A Thousand Words
Devon flashed a slashing white pirate’s grin at him, and then dropped down onto the bed as sexy-boneless-rum-soaked-hot as Johnny Depp in the first Pirates movie. Adrien shivered and sighed. Devon continued forward, crawling up and over Adrien with the sinuous grace of a jungle cat. Then he leaned forward, purring his response to the question Adrien had nearly forgotten, and—oh, sweet heavens—murmuring it directly into the sensitive shell of Adrien’s ear. “Silly, silly Adrien… the only stunner here is you.”
A moment later Adrien remembered the advertising for Liquid Silk and sent up a fervent prayer of thanks. The pump really did work easily one handed. Devon had one hand wrapped around the underside of Adrien’s jaw, stroking the skin from just under his chin to the top of his throat. He lifted Adrien’s right leg up over his left shoulder, running the hand on that side down along the thigh until he came to Adrien’s plump ass. Devon made a low noise, not quite a growl, not quite a moan but somehow both and neither. Then there was the spreading lube around on the nerve rich area around his anus. Devon ran his slick fingertip around and around the tightly furled opening, waiting until the muscles began to loosen before pushing just the tip of his finger in.
Adrien opened his mouth, a tiny noise escaping from the back of his throat as he fought to dredge up a single coherent thought. Nothing came to him, nothing except, “More…”
Devon just smiled his pirate smile again. The shushing, plastic rubbing, clicking noise of the lube’s pump tickled Adrien’s ears at the same moment Devon thrust his finger fully in.
Adrien pushed back, wanting more, wanting now. Just wanting... “Ahhh.”
Devon pulled his finger out, circled the rim, and then thrust two in with slow deliberation. Adrien’s breath caught in his throat. Turning his face sharply to the left, he opened his mouth over the pad of muscle below Devon’s thumb, licking and suckling the spot. Devon’s hand tasted of salt, coffee, and man. Adrien was hard pressed to keep himself from biting hard enough to break the skin. He wanted to put his mark on this man.
“Shhh…shhh…shhh…” Devon leaned down, nuzzling into the side of Adrien’s neck, strewing tiny butterfly kisses along his jaw and murmuring all the while. The frenzied, wild thing rising in Adrien stilled, curled about itself and lay quiescent.
“It’s okay, baby. You’re okay. Shhh…”
More lube and another finger and then Adrien heard what had Devon murmuring and nuzzling and gentling him like some poor wild thing trapped in the glass and metal confines of a city. His own voice keening out in a continuous low wail of broken trust and disillusion made the hairs on his arms stand straight up and he couldn’t stop. Adrien clutched at Devon, fingers digging in. The bite he’d begun to relax closed back, breaking the skin this time. Devon grunted, and then pressed his big thumb into the pressure point just at the hinge of Adrien’s jaw.
Adrien’s mouth sprang open, and the noise grew to wails. Devon continued to murmur, nonsense sound and endearments. He lifted his bloody hand to Adrien’s jaw again. “Babe. You gotta put the condom on. I can’t do it. One hand’s all covered in slick and the other’s bleeding. If I use that hand we might as well ditch the condom, and we’re not doing that anytime soon, much as I’d like to be bare inside you. Adrien, look at me. That’s right look at me. I got you, but you gotta help me.”
Whimpering, Adrien nuzzled into Devon’s hand. He needed to do what Devon wanted. Anything to keep Devon close, get him closer. Adrien reached out, hand scrambling around on the sheets searching for the condoms Devon had tossed down. His hand closed over a small square packet, cool and slippery against the soft cotton of the bedding. Devon lowered himself down, pinning Adrien in place with his body. “Adrien, focus for me, okay babe? I’m going to lift up enough for you to reach the goods here. Don’t—that’s precision equipment there, beautiful. Try not to knock it out of calibration, alright? That way you get a better ride, right?”
Adrien laughed then, surprised that he could, a little grossed out by the snot bubbles he could feel in his nostrils. Devon just gave him that same wicked pirate grin. Grabbing up the condom packet, Adrien nodded. “… yeah… I can do that.”

Monday is a Splendorous Thing

No mania today, just some happy time news for the week...

Today marks the first day of my Italian Cinema class...

Tomorrow Tian is up to bat... and he's interviewing Adrien from my Rescue Twinks series...

Wednesday's Work in Progress is all about my Next Big Thing...

Thursday marks the return of the Thursday Think Tank, and we'll be chatting all about... hmm, now that would be telling. You'll just have to keep your eyes peeled to find out, my beautiful babies!

Friday is a Flash day, with another snippet from Fire and Ice (I do love my Demon/Elemental/Angel Triad)...

Saturday I host a stop on the lovely and talented Ms. Janiera Eldridge's Dark Expectations Tour...

Sunday? Snogging of course, with the wench who started it all, the ever tricky Vicky (Victoria) Blisse!!

Later, gators. Hope your day is full of joy and wonder.

The Penultimate Snog~~Worth A Thousand Words

His long, thick lashes fluttered down to touch his dangerously tempting cheekbones, and then fluttered up one last time. “Mine. Say it for me, Adrien.”
Adrien’s breath caught in his chest. “Yours. Oh, hell, yeah, all yours, Devon.”
Devon’s eyes closed again. “Remind me to tell Michael I still owe him that favor. Cause meeting you is the best thing that ever happened to me.”
Devon stayed every single night after that, only going home to shower and change clothes, and once to see Mrs. Simpson. She rescheduled the rest of his appointments for early morning when he’d have to be gone anyway, or early evening when another family member could sit with Adrien. Devon told Adrien his boss had fudged a little paperwork and given him family medical leave.
Adrien quickly braced his side and laughed. “What did you do, flutter those Soto lashes at him?”
Devon kissed him quiet.

Yes, yes, I know it's really short. But... I have one word for you. Epilogue. He he he.
